Civil Defence to test sirens

Auckland Civil Defence will be testing the tsunami warning sirens this Sunday to ensure that in the event of a tsunami the systems continue to work efficiently.

Civil Defence and Emergency Management Director Chris Manley oversees this and the other siren tests at each Daylight Savings Time periods

“We run these tests to check operational performance and familiarise residents with the siren tones. The sirens are just one of a number of technology-based public warning systems that Auckland Civil Defence has in place for the entire region to better prepare for natural disasters,” says Manley.

Each set of the tones – alert, evacuate and all clear – will be tested, but at shorter periods than they would normally be run for in Rodney and Waitakere.
