An initiative that was birthed in South Auckland to celebrate its Pacific culture is now bigger than ever.
This year’s Southside Arts festival will give emerging and established talent a platform to share their creativity.
The festival will host four urban “villages”. Each village will have three to four days of cultural activities connecting arts and culture facilities in town centres in Mangere, Otara, Henderson and Takapuna. They will complement the return of signature event Cult Couture: Fabrik Navigators.
A definite highlight is none other than Hip-Hop Polyswagg Queen Parris Goebel. The eight-time World Hip-Hop Dance Champion will bring her signature style with her latest show ‘Moonchild’, a personal story of her humble beginnings to her rise in the dance world. Goebel will perform at the Vodafone Events Centre this Friday.
Attendees will also experience new dance Fine Fatale, spoken word poets Niu Navigations, STKS the muso wizard, and street art master Allen Villi. These artists will call each of the urban villages home and will weave the thread of Pasifika art throughout the festival.
