A building on Queen Street was evacuated today after a fire alarm was raised.
Five fire engines and two police cars were called to the Whitireia building at 450 Queen Street, Auckland.

Reports say occupants within the building initially believed the alarm was a drill. Administrator Bex Norton, who works at the address, confirmed this.
It’s also reported that the evacuation did not run smoothly, and emergency evacuation procedures are being reviewed as a result.

Security guards were also called to control a person they believed was responsible for triggering the alarm.
The person was removed from the scene and questioned by police. No arrests were made.
