A man has been arrested after a 13 hour stand-off with police in East Auckland.
Police spent most of yesterday and this morning at a property on The Esplanade, Eastern Beach, negotiating with a 38-year-old man who was believed to be armed and holed up inside the house.
Police evacuated neighbours and the area was cordoned off. Residents were allowed to return a short time later under police escort.
Inspector Cornell Kluessien told Stuff: “Everyone is pleased. There are staff who have been here all night. The locals have been very helpful. Some had been evacuated. People who come here early to run were very understanding and found a new route.”
Police used tear gas, and the man finally agreed to exit the property at around 8:45am this morning. No shots were fired during the incident, and no one was injured.
