A burst water pipe caused flooding in a Queen Street building in central Auckland this morning.

It’s reported that over 400 cubic metres of water filled the basement of the Japan Dollar Mart at 155 Queen Street.

Firefighters began draining out the water at approximately 7.30am, and were at the location until 1:30pm.

“There’s enough water to almost fill an Olympic pool,” a spokesperson for the fire service said.

“There seems to be major leaking into the basement of the building so we’re working hard to stop that. It’s caused some pretty major flooding in the basement and on the street,” the spokesperson told NZ City.
