Journalist Keren Cook talks with progressive Rabbi Brent Gutmann about Passover on Radio Shalom.
Gutmann is the recently-appointed Rabbi for the Beth Shalom progressive congregation in Epsom, Auckland.
Gutmann, 32, is American-born and has been living in New Zealand for the past two years. In this interview Brent shares some interesting insights about Passover from a progressive viewpoint, and offers some context for this upcoming festival about why it’s such an important festival in the Jewish calendar.
Gutmann says he is from a strongly Jewish family.
“We were proud of who we were and believed we should never conceal our Jewish identity,” he says.
Gutmann offers personal insights into his family background, talks about his Rabbinical calling, while offering interesting perspectives around Judaism all within a contemporary context.
