Today’s the day: the ICC Cricket World Cup semi-final between New Zealand and South Africa.
Crowds that couldn’t get their hands on tickets to the game at Eden Park still have somewhere else to watch – the designated fan zone down at Britomart in Auckland’s inner-city.
People have come from everywhere to get a taste of Eden Parks’ atmosphere, some even getting the day off work.
Daniel Colgan, a dairy farmer from Waikato says his boss is very understanding.
“I called the boss up yesterday and let him know what was going on and got the day off. I have to work a couple extra hours to make up for it,” says Colgan.
Not only is Takutai Square home to the fan zone, but it will also turn into party zone later on in the evening, with a live band to boot.
However, some fans won’t be staying in the zone for the evening. Colgan and his mates have opted for a location closer to the game.
“If the Black Caps win, I’m gonna party hard at a bar in Kingsland tonight, nice and close to Eden Park,” says Colgan.
