A fire caused major disruption in the Auckland CBD, particularly on Federal and Albert Street, on Thursday afternoon.

Twelve fire crews were called to deal with the fire, and parts of Albert and Federal Street were shut down.
The fire is believed to have started in an extractor fan in the Federal House building, which had to be evacuated.
Al Brown’s Federal delicatessen was at the heart of the action, and had to be closed.

Eyewitnesses described dark smoke and an acrid smell coming from the area.
Although a number of buildings sustained damage no one was injured by the fire.
