A man’s body found on Mission Bay beach has been identified.

The body of 21 year-old Majeet Singh was discovered early Wednesday morning.

The discovery was made by a member of the public walking along Mission Bay beach at approximately 6am.

Singh was of Indian nationality and was living in Auckland CBD on a student visa. Police say Singh studied a diploma in business at the International College of Auckland.

Detectives are making enquires into Singh’s movements from May 12 to 13, and are examining CCTV footage, phone records and bank statements.

A police spokeswoman said Singh was at Britomart Mc Donalds at approximately 1am.

Police are working on behalf of the Coroner to establish the circumstances of this case, but believe there are no signs of foul play.

Detective Sergeant James Robson told the New Zealand Herald: “At this stage there is no indication of anything sinister or anything like that.”

Mr Singh’s father, Jeet Singh, believes his son’s death is suspicious. He told media he is waiting for the return of his son’s body, which should arrive in India within 12 days.

Sergeant Robson would like anyone with any information about this case to contact the Glenn Innes CIB.
