Facebook news feeds have been swamped with rainbows as the “Celebrate Pride” tool goes viral.
The tool was launched by Facebook’s co-founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg shortly after the legalisation of same sex marriage in all 50 states of the US.
The popular feature lets Facebook users show their support for marriage equality. When applied, a rainbow flag is superimposed over an user’s profile picture.
Some have questioned the use of this tool to track members. The Atlantic asked whether the tool was “another experience”. A Facebook spokesperson responded, saying, “it’s not an experiment or test—everyone sees the same thing. From all of us at Facebook, happy Pride!”

Anyone looking to use the tool can do so, as long as they have a current Facebook account.
Feedback from Facebook users has been mixed, with some all for it, some not, and others just unsure.
