Police are examining the scene of a fatality on the train tracks in Newmarket.
It appears the deceased had fallen off a neighbouring building and landed on the tracks. As a result of the indecent all train lines in and out of Newmarket were temporarily closed.
A St John spokeswoman told nzherald.co.nz two vehicles attended the incident at 12.15pm. One patient with critical injuries was treated at the scene. No further details could be released, she said.
Fire services also attended the scene.
Auckland Transport says a train shuttle was operating between Onehunga and Penrose during the rail closure.
The delays come on the first day of the electric train roll-out, with Auckland Transport replacing its remaining old diesel trains with electric trains on all lines from Papakura and Swanson to Britomart today.
