Kiwi songstress Lorde has been nominated for a 2015 MTV Europe Music Award.

Lorde’s nomination is for Best Alternative Act. She has got some tough competition – she’s up against Fall Out Boy, Lana Del Rey, Florence + The Machine, Twenty One Pilots and Americans Trash Sweetheart in the same category.

Lorde was nominated at last year’s award show in Glasgow in the same category but lost out to Thirty Seconds to Mars.

Lorde’s gal-pal Taylor Swift is nominated for nine awards including Best Female, Best Live Act, Best Pop and Best Song.

The Royals singer has also been working on her highly anticipated second album with producer and fellow Kiwi, Joel Little. She has been in the studio since May this year, but there is no word yet on when it will be released.

New music from the pop icon has leaked this week due to a mix-up on Spotify. Lorde has been working on a new song with English duo Disclosure. The track is called Magnets, and even though we can only hear 30 seconds of it, early signs indicate it will be a big hit.

Listen to a segment of the song below: Magnets starts around the 2.17 mark:
