From Frozen to Minions, Thunderbirds to Lego, predictably, the popular brands were the ones to watch in 2015 when it came to Santa’s shopping list.
The biggest toy sellers and industry experts, including Hamleys – the oldest toy shop in the world (founded in 1760) – have identified the top toys that were on children’s letters to Santa last year.
Christmas of 2014 parents desperately scrambled to get their hands on the must-have toy that children wanted in their stockings – the Elsa Snow Glow doll.
The youngsters still weren’t able to ‘let it go’ in 2015 when it came to Frozen – as a different version of the Disney Queen made the list of the most wanted children’s toys.
The list was reportedly dominated by the big and small screen, including Frozen, Thunderbirds, and a Tumbling Stuart toy inspired by blockbuster movie Minions.
Research revealed that almost 90 percent of children’s Christmas stockings contained toys influenced by their favourite TV shows and films.
A few old classics emerged as front runners – with interactive twists to encourage imagination. Many of the toys on the list were similar to those that parents may have played with when they were younger.
With toys like Tracy Island, Lego and Barbie, parents said they would be more likely to play and bond with their child.
Keith Chapman, creator of Bob the Builder and other children’s shows, said:
“With Thunderbirds already back on our screen and legacy characters like Minions, Lego and Barbie going from strength to strength it’s no surprise they dominate the list.
“Kids today want to bring to life their favourite characters, creating stories in their own homes and many of the toys on this year’s list allow them to do this.”
