Video: Te Tahawai Marae Experience 2017

My fellow New Zealand Radio Training School students, tutors and I went to the Te Tahawai Marae this week.

Set in the grounds of Edgewater College, Pakuranga, the marae is a great place to learn more about the Maori culture and their way of life.

I was very nervous before attending. Once I arrived, I was greeted warmly and felt at ease. All nervousness flew out the door and I was able to be my quirky, unique self.

We learnt all about the Maori culture with Waiata (traditional Maori song), weaving and stick games. I can’t forget the food. Five meals a day was definitely something right down my alley. The Maori won’t leave you hungry, just remember to fast for a couple of days beforehand to fit in all of the amazing food they have on offer.

Massive thanks to the staff at Te Tahawai Marae for having us.
